5G: progress or progressive irresponsibility?

Do wireless headphones like Apple’s AirPods increase the risk of cancer? How dangerous is the new 5G mobile communications standard? Doctors and scientists warn of unforeseen consequences. A symposium on this topic will be held in Mainz in October. In Florence and Rome, resistance is stirring at a political level.

According to a report on heilpraxis.net, 250 international researchers from over 40 countries recently signed a petition warning against devices that generate electromagnetic fields (EMF), such as the wireless headphones from Apple (AirPods) or Samsung (Galaxy Buds). The reason: many experts claim that the electromagnetic field (EMF) is carcinogenic and also has other adverse health effects. “Placing them in the ear canal exposes the tissue in the head to relatively high levels of radiofrequency radiation,” warns Professor Dr. Jerry Phillips from the University of Colorado, a biochemist and one of the experts who signed the petition, in an interview with the English-language newspaper “Medium”. This poses potential risks for tumors and other conditions associated with abnormal cell function. In general, however, all technologies that work with radio frequencies pose a health risk, according to the biochemist.

Outdated guidelines

The petition is addressed to the United Nations and the World Health Organization (WHO) with the request to revise the recommendations for EMF radiation. The current guidelines are outdated and, according to the petition, new studies have now been carried out which prove that electromagnetic fields are more harmful to health than previously assumed. Cordless headphones, cell phones, cordless telephones and their base stations, Wi-Fi, radio antennas, baby monitors – these and other electrical devices generate a low-frequency electromagnetic field that is suspected of causing damage to health. The 250 experts who signed the petition are convinced that EMF radiation poses an increased risk of numerous diseases and negative health conditions, such as cancer, genetic damage, infertility, learning and memory deficits and neurological disorders.

International symposium in Mainz

What health risks are associated with mobile phone technology? What possible effects are to be expected for special risk groups, especially the young generation of children and adolescents? To discuss these and many other questions, the
Competence Initiative for the Protection of People, the Environment and Democracy e.V.
is organizing a conference. The motto of the event is: “Progress or progressive irresponsibility? Biological effects of mobile radio.” The international public symposium will take place from October 4 to 6, 2019 at the Electoral Palace in Mainz. The conference will deal with the topic of the ‘biological effects’ of mobile radio in overviews and in-depth discussions that are as generally understandable as possible. Internationally renowned speakers provide first-hand information and recommendations in lectures, workshops, film documentaries and panel discussions and invite discussion.

Moratorium in Geneva, backdoor principle in Bern

As we recently reported, the canton of Geneva has issued a moratorium on the new 5G mobile communications standard. This is because the health effects of the new mobile phone standard are unclear. Geneva is thus taking up a demand made by Doctors for the Environment (AefU). The AefU is calling on the other cantons to follow Geneva’s example. The AefU also rejects the backdoor increase in limit values. This fear appears to be justified. As the gigaherz.ch association reports, on Friday, April 12, the Federal Office of Communications unexpectedly modified its transmitter map with the locations of transmitters already in operation that have been upgraded to 5G. These are apparently around 400 “illegal upgrades”, which “may have been carried out with the complicity of cantonal environmental offices” (quotes from gigaherz.ch) and are probably hardly known to the municipal administrations (you can find more information here). Gigaherz.ch has therefore sent a registered letter to Federal Councillor Simonetta Sommaruga asking her to “put an end to this nonsense and restore law and order in the state”.

Resistance to 5G also in Italy

In the last blog post, we discussed various protest movements in Europe against the 5G mobile communications standard. Now there is also resistance in Italy, as diagnose-funk.org reports: Florence City Council (almost) unanimously adopts a resolution that establishes the precautionary principle as a necessary criterion for future developments in urban planning with regard to 5G. The Mayor is requested by the City Council not to issue individual permits for the implementation of 5G until an overall plan for this technical roll-out has been adopted in consultation with the authorities responsible for health. The mayor should also intervene with the Italian Association of Municipalities so that they reconsider the ‘Wi-Fi in every square’ project. According to diagnose-funk.org, a majority of a district council in Rome voted against the introduction of 5G in the municipality of Rome. Mayor Virginia Raggi will be asked not to allow a test phase in the Eternal City. Most of the local councillors in this district appear to belong to the same political force as the mayor herself, namely the 5-Star Movement. The decision was made after a hearing of doctors and experts. Although this political work is part of the decentralization of the city administration, it is not binding for the central city council.

5G forces people to take responsibility

Richard Neubersch, owner of Swiss Harmony , describes in the following video what will change with 5G and that each individual should ensure protection for themselves and their family. This means that artificially created radiation fields can no longer resonate.

Protection from harmful radiation
