Smart meters are being touted by energy companies as the new intelligent electricity meters, the “green alternative”. However, energy concerts and authorities hardly ever report on the high levels of radiation emitted by smart meters.
The days when electricity meter readers went from house to house seem to be slowly coming to an end. The reason: Since 2011, property owners in Germany have been legally obliged to install “intelligent” electricity meters, so-called smart meters, for new builds, renovations and electricity consumption of more than 6,000 kWh/year. These are digital meters with a transmission interface. Little of this has been implemented so far because no one wanted to bear the costs. On 4 November 2015, the Federal Cabinet passed a draft law on the “digitalization of the energy transition”, which is now intended to pass on the costs to the end consumer. Smart meters have already been installed in around 65 million households in the USA – in some cases against the will of the homeowners.
“Green alternative” with a serious catch
According to the Swiss Federal Office of Energy (SFOE), it is working “intensively on the future of the electricity grids”. An impact assessment on the introduction of smart metering systems has already been carried out. The SFOE is also drawing up a “Smart Grid Roadmap” for Switzerland in parallel with the Electricity Grid Strategy. It will set out a roadmap and the available options for the further development of the Swiss electricity grids and identify the need for action. Energy companies and authorities are touting smart meters as a “green alternative” to traditional electricity meters. Energy consumption is recorded wirelessly and transmitted to the energy company.
Higher radiation exposure than with cell phones
What is hardly ever communicated, however: The way it works may be simple, but the technology behind it is not, as a report on kopp-verlag.de points out. The permanent energy pulses that smart meters emit when they communicate with the electrical appliances in the household on the one hand and with the energy company on the other apparently represent a radiation exposure that exceeds that of cell phones a hundredfold. No wonder, then, that many doctors are now warning that smart meters pose a health risk due to the constant emission of radiation.
Headaches, seizures, sleep disorders, tinnitus …
Independent studies underline the high risk of smart meters:
The Center for Electrosmog Prevention (CEP), a Californian non-profit organization, estimates that a single smart meter emits as much radiation as 160 cell phones combined.
Other studies have come to the conclusion that smart meters even emit 1000 times the radiation of a normal cell phone. Daniel Hirsch, radiation expert and lecturer at the University of California, San Diego (UCSD), refutes in an article the California Council on Science and Technology (CCST), which had come to the conclusion based on industry data that smart meters are safer than cell phones. Hirsch writes: “The total exposure to a smart meter from one meter away is on average twice as great as that from a cell phone – not half as great.” There is evidence of headaches, seizures, sleep disorders, dizziness, palpitations, tinnitus and other symptoms associated with these meters.
“Smart meters are a potential danger”
Even the American Academy of Environmental Medicine (AAEM) confirms that smart meters pose a potential danger, especially for people with pre-existing conditions. It officially recommends: “Smart meters should not be installed in a household where people with neurological or neurodegenerative diseases, genetic defects, cancer and other diseases live. In addition, smart meters should be removed from the immediate vicinity of patients’ homes.”
England: Petition against the introduction of smart meters
In England, according to a report on scio-medical.com, the issue seems to be one step further. The organization Electrosensitivity UK is calling for support for a petition against the introduction of smart meters with the aim of protecting the long-term health and safety of UK citizens, and in particular the health of children. According to the report, consumers should be able to opt for wired home networks at no additional cost. Electrosensitive persons should also be given the opportunity to keep their analog measuring devices and, if necessary, be equipped with shielding materials.
The transparent citizen thanks to smart meters
Another aspect of smart meters has a social and societal component: With a smart electricity meter that automatically delivers all values directly to the energy companies, citizens become transparent. After all, it is not just the current that is counted, but the entire current curve over time. For example, it can tell you when you are at home, when you cook, wash and even which TV program you watch. All based on typical consumption patterns.
Generate a harmonic oscillation field
Do you want to protect yourself from high-frequency radiation and electrosmog? The law of resonance states that no resonances can occur in an oscillating field with oscillations whose frequencies lie outside those of the field. In other words: In a harmonic oscillation field, artificial radiation has no effect, regardless of who generates it, whether it comes from a neighbor or a nearby mobile phone mast. The mobile products from Swiss Harmony BioRing, BodyCard, BioBracelet and the BioPatch) harmonize the human body by transmitting the harmonic vibration as information to the human energy system. This means that artificially created radiation fields – including those from smart meters – can no longer resonate.
Swiss Harmony: Protection against harmful radiation
Products from Swiss Harmony for harmonizing houses and apartments ensure that the electricity that supplies a building with electricity receives a different message. They transmit the information of the visible light spectrum to the passing current via the resonance path, which in turn distributes it throughout the entire effective range of the circuit. The electromagnetic field of the apartment or house becomes a harmonious field. In-house WLAN transmitters, cell phones or cordless phones are interference-free because they are connected to the harmonic current field and therefore emit the same harmonic information.
