Fact carousel and conflicts of interest in the “sea of radiation”

Two recent studies on radiation exposure around cell phone antennas show how quickly the facts can be distorted. And the well-being of flora and fauna is often forgotten in discussions about mobile phone radiation.

The Swiss Federal Council has presented its report on the postulate (review mandate) from Brigitte Häberli-Koller, Member of the Council of States, “Sustainable mobile communications network”. The application was about examining “what a sustainable mobile network can look like in order to achieve optimal radiation protection on the one hand and to ensure the introduction of 5G on the other. The advantages and disadvantages of a standardized mobile network will also be presented, as diagnose:funk.org reports.” This report can be found on the website of the Federal Office of Communications(OFCOM).

End devices close to the body with high radiation

One of the “fundamental findings” of this report reads on page 20: “The study shows that people’s exposure to radiation from near-body terminals during use is significantly higher than the exposure caused by the network. In all simulated scenarios, the exposure from the cell phone is on average at least ten times higher than that caused by the network. The end device therefore results in a much higher radiation exposure for users than that caused by mobile phone antennas. This also confirms the findings of the report “Mobile radio and radiation”.”

“Banal knowledge”

Comment from diagnose:funk Switzerland: “This is about active cell phone users. The realization that the terminal device used on the body is the source of the highest radiation exposure to which we can expose ourselves is banal knowledge. What is being overlooked is the fact that terminal users literally have this exposure in their own hands. The report does not say anything about how active users can reduce this exposure. A change in user behavior was also not a question asked in the report.”

Greatest exposure to mobile phone antennas

The Federal Office for the Environment (FOEN), on the other hand, has published a report on exposure measurements of non-ionizing radiation (NIR). The measurement technicians measured the radiation from the most important sources of high-frequency radiation at various locations and set their own cell phones to flight mode. It is clear to see that the downlink (the radiation from the mobile phone antennas) generally represents by far the greatest exposure (shown in green). The greatest load is clearly generated by mobile phone antennas (downlink), in some cases over 80 percent.

The whole truth looks different

Members of diagnose:funk Switzerland were on site and took simple measurements. The total exposure to mobile phone radiation was measured and not just the time on the cell phone where data is actively sent. These measurements are in line with the FOEN report on “NIR monitoring”. In places where there are many mobile phone base stations and/or the distance to them is short, the continuous radiation exposure is extremely much higher than in places where there are few antennas and/or these are installed far away from residential areas or at very high locations. The FOEN report therefore also states: “For the majority of the measurement environments, the main source of exposure is the downlink (mobile phone antennas).”

Fewer birds and insects

The discussions about the effects of mobile phone radiation are also about the welfare of animals and plant life. This is often forgotten. According to diagnose-funk.org, a recent study carried out around a mobile phone mast in Kafue National Park in Zambia has shown that: The closer to the cell tower, the fewer birds and insects. This applies both to the number of animals counted and to the number of animal species. The environmental and consumer organization diagnose:funk believes that these new research findings confirm that mobile phone radiation could be another factor in the decline of insects and birds. As a consequence, the scientists at Copperbelt University expressly demand that the effects on animals be taken into account when installing mobile phone masts (“For conservation purposes, deployment of phone masts should consider EMR intensities.”). diagnose:funk publishes a review of this study by Copperbelt University in Kitwe, Zambia, in the latest issue of the specialist journal “ElektrosmogReport”. A field study conducted by the University of Bartin in Turkey in 2021 also showed very impressively how the number of flowers, the number of cones produced and the germination capacity of these cones in the Turkish pine (bot.: Pinus brutia) is massively reduced by radiation from a mobile phone mast.

Generate a harmonic oscillation field

How can you protect yourself and your children from high-frequency radiation and electrosmog? “The law of resonance states that no resonances can occur in an oscillation field with oscillations whose frequencies lie outside those of the field,” says Richard Neubersch. In other words: In a harmonic oscillation field, artificial radiation has no effect, regardless of who generates it, whether it comes from a neighbor or a nearby mobile phone mast.
