Totally networked, totally monitored – totally indifferent?

Digital technology is currently opening the doors to a total surveillance state in China. Although we are a long way from that in this country, digital systems, smartphones and the like make it easier to monitor every single person. How indifferent are we to this development? Even in view of the new 5G mobile technology?

In Zhengzhou, it is not possible to cross the pedestrian crossing without being recognized. Anyone who does this in the Chinese city is registered using facial recognition. – So begins an article in the Basler Zeitung on March 6 of this year about the surveillance regime in China. However, the nationwide camera network of the Chinese police is only part of a project of the Ministry of Police. According to the organization Human Rights Watch, all data on hundreds of millions of citizens is being collected. Artificial intelligence is supposed to solve or even prevent crimes. As a result, medical histories, food orders, religious views and which websites each individual citizen visits are recorded. Shopping centers in China are apparently also relying on facial recognition, as the Basler Zeitung writes.

A challenge for society and democracy

The majority of Chinese people still seem to be indifferent to this new surveillance regime, which monitors and records their every move. Technology makes it possible. And hardly anyone can do without this technology any more. It is well known that cell phones have a certain addictive potential. How indifferent are we in Switzerland to this issue? How consciously or unconsciously do we use our smartphone? Has it already become an indispensable part of our lives, indeed of our identity? Are we concerned about the consequences of mobile phone technology for our health, our psyche and our personal development? Indifference and an uncritical approach to technologies and other developments that attempt to “control” us humans in a certain way are not without danger. This is a challenge for society and democracy. What values are we giving up in favor of technology, commerce and ultimately power?

Demonstration on May 10 in Bern

Many people are currently concerned about the new 5G mobile communications standard. Also in Switzerland. A demonstration demanding a moratorium on 5G technology will take place in Bern tomorrow Friday from 6.30 to 8.30 pm. Scientists and doctors from all over the world – including the Swiss Medical Association (FMH) – are concerned about the potential dangers of 5G technology. The precautionary principle must have absolute priority, they demand. “We demand that a moratorium on this technology be introduced immediately. We reject the increase in the current limit values of the NIR Ordinance and the averaging of the measured values over 24 hours. We also demand that the current peak values – instead of the current average values according to the current regulation – do not exceed the applicable limits,” says the Association “Protection from Radiation”. The initiators currently estimate the number of electrosensitive people in Switzerland at 800,000. Many of them already suffer from severe health problems and are unable to participate in life. Not to mention serious illnesses associated with excessive exposure to radiation.

63,379 people from 168 countries

Back in April, 28,000 people demonstrated in Austria against the 5G expansion. Since March 29, 63,379 people from 168 countries have already taken part in an international petition against 5G. Environmental physicians from Italy, Austria, the USA and Switzerland call for a 5G moratorium. The environmental and consumer organization diagnose:funk calls on Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze to take the current resolution of the German section of the IPPNW physicians seriously: “IPPNW calls for a moratorium on the expansion of the 5G mobile network” is the detailed resolution of the IPPNW general meeting on 4 May. Jörn Gutbier, Chairman of diagnose:funk: “Environmental physicians from the USA, Italy, Austria and Switzerland have been calling for a moratorium on the development of 5G mobile communications for some time. Now the German IPPNW doctors are also emphatically calling for this. Federal Environment Minister Svenja Schulze must finally listen to the doctors!” To date, the German government has not even had a technology assessment for 5G mobile radiation. But anyone who takes the precautionary principle seriously must now put the brakes on 5G and impose a moratorium on the construction of the 5G mobile network. After all, according to Jörn Gutbier, there is increasing scientific evidence that mobile phone radiation is carcinogenic.

5G forces people to take responsibility

Richard Neubersch, owner of Swiss Harmony , describes in the following video what will change with 5G and that each individual should ensure protection for themselves and their family.
