Mobile phone radiation damages cells through oxidation process
A research group led by Igor Yakymenko at the Kiev Institute of Experimental Pathology, Oncology and Radiobiology has analyzed 80 studies on oxidative stress caused by microwave radiation. As a result, the scientists consider it proven that mobile phone radiation leads to damaging oxidation processes in cells. This happens due to the overproduction of free radicals under the influence of radiation.
In the journal “Oxidants and Antioxidants in Medical Science” from March 29, 2014, the editorial “Low-intensity microwave radiation: a new oxidizing agent for living cells” shows that from 80 studies 92.5 % ( = 76 studies) showed damage due to oxidative stress as a result of mobile phone radiation. The effects occur in the non-thermal range, i.e. at intensities far below the limit values.
This low-intensity radiation can lead to mutagenic effects through significant oxidative damage to DNA and cause a wide range of health problems and diseases, including cancer. Last but not least, we also age faster as a result!
Oxidative stress is considered to be a major cause of exhaustion, headaches, inflammatory diseases and even heart attacks. There is also a suspected link between oxidative stress and the destructive effect of free radicals on living cells in neurodegenerative diseases such as Alzheimer’s and Parkinson’s, as well as autoimmune diseases such as MS.
Our limit values are still based on physical calculations and the thermal effect of radiation. This means that it is assumed that damage can only be caused by overheating of the tissue (e.g. skin). This is not the first time that this has been demonstrated by the results of Yakymenko et al. and once again it becomes clear that the limit values set by the legislator are too high to protect us.
What we can do is to strengthen ourselves (see our blog from Dec. 6 and 13, 2014) and keep our environment as low in radiation as possible. Tips on this under “Knowledge about electrosmog”.
