How many more studies on the harmfulness of mobile phone radiation are needed?

In recent years, numerous studies have been published that prove the carcinogenic potential of mobile phone radiation. Unfortunately, there is all too often a lack of insight in politics in this country.

In August 2016, the Austrian General Accident Insurance Institution (AUVA) published the ATHEM Report II “Investigation of athermal effects of electromagnetic fields in the mobile phone sector”, as reported by diagnose-funk.org. The study was conducted at the Medical University of Vienna after the Court of Cassation in Rome, the highest court in Italy, for the first time attributed a manager’s brain tumor to his frequent cell phone use. The claimant receives an 80 percent occupational disability pension.

Faster and earlier to the tumor

In addition to the study by the Medical University of Vienna, several studies have recently been published that prove the carcinogenic potential of non-ionizing radiation, caused for example by mobile telephony. In the USA, the National Toxicology Program (NTP) presented the first partial results of the most comprehensive animal study on non-ionizing radiation and cancer in rats on 27 May 2016. Result: Mobile phone radiation can lead to tumors. In May 2015, Professor Michael Kundi of the Medical University of Vienna presented his statistical evaluations of the increase in brain tumours in the South Tyrolean provincial parliament; this trend was due to a cancer-promoting effect of non-ionizing radiation. According to Professor Michael Kundi, the tumor develops faster and earlier with mobile communications.

Increase in cancer tumors in children

In March 2015, following the results of a replication study, the German Federal Office for Radiation Protection announced that a cancer-promoting effect below the limit values must be regarded as certain. Between 1994 and 2012, the Robert Koch Institute noted an increase in malignant cancer tumors in children of around 25 percent. Professor Franz Adlkofer, coordinator of the REFLEX project, concludes after the NTP study: “According to the current state of research, the genotoxicity of mobile phone radiation can now be regarded as certain.”

Large-scale studies and many individual studies

Apart from the numerous large-scale studies such as REFLEX, INTERPHONE, NTP, which also caused a stir in the media, there are now more than 50 individual studies that prove DNA strand breaks as a result of mobile phone radiation (Rüdiger 2009; Hardell/Carlberg 2012; BioInitiativeReport 2012, chapters 11-14).

The Austrian Ministry of Health reacts

The public should be informed by the health authorities about this carcinogenic risk potential, especially about the conclusions proposed in the ATHEM report for a risk-minimized use of mobile phone technology. The Austrian Ministry of Health responded to the Results of the AUVA report immediately with the Leaflet “Cell phone rules” and the appeal: “These recommendations are particularly important for children! Dear parents, talk to your children about them!” Such a step away from trivialization towards transparent and objective clarification would also be necessary in Germany, Switzerland and other European countries!

Raising awareness and further training for doctors

In some countries, including Switzerland, there is little political awareness of this issue – despite various studies from around the world. Medical professionals could play an important role here: Not only do they know the medical context, but as doctors they are also important confidants for the population. The Swiss Society of Anti-Aging Medicine and Prevention SSAAMP is holding a training event for doctors on October 13. The seminar will explain the health effects of electrosmog on the body and discuss the medical aspects of the problem. Book about electrosensitive people

The book “A beautiful prison” by Swedish author and educator Gunilla Ladberg, published by the Bürgerwelle e.V. association, impressively shows us how adults and children who are sensitive to electricity and radio radiation have had to give up their homes, jobs and schools. Today, they mostly live in isolation in remote places or in the forest. What they told the author about their lives there makes up the main part of this touching book. However, these people are just the tip of the iceberg. Countless other sufferers try to get through their daily lives inconspicuously by bravely enduring the symptoms and avoiding the worst radiation exposure as much as possible. And many, many have not even realized that their symptoms could also be related to radio radiation.

Generate a harmonic oscillation field
