New study shows: Mobile radio is also a danger for insects

Insects suffer from electromagnetic fields, especially those from mobile phones and WLAN. This is the conclusion of a new meta-study. More and more people are recognizing the dangers of mobile phone technology.

A new meta-study on the “Biological effects of electromagnetic fields on insects” caused by high voltage, mobile communications and WLAN comes to the conclusion that, in addition to pesticides and the loss of habitats, mobile phone radiation also has negative effects on insects and is therefore likely to be a further factor in the weakening of the insect world. The study analysis is based on 190 scientific publications and was carried out by the biologist and environmental scientist Alain Thill on behalf of the environmental and consumer organization diagnose:funk, NABU Baden-Württemberg and the Luxembourg environmental organization AKUT.

Mobile phone radiation more harmful than high-voltage power lines
The author of the meta-study reviewed 190 scientific publications on the subject of insects and electromagnetic fields. After evaluating the studies, it is clear that mobile phone and WLAN radiation in particular ensure that the calcium channels of the cells are opened so that calcium ions flow in more frequently. Calcium is an important messenger substance that triggers a biochemical chain reaction that leads to oxidative cell stress in insects. As a result, the sense of orientation is impaired and the ability to reproduce decreases. In addition, the day-night rhythm is disturbed and the immune system is misactivated. Studies from Greece also show that mobile phone radiation is significantly more harmful than the 50 Hertz magnetic field of a high-voltage power line.

Effects of mobile phone radiation often underestimated
“The meta-study shows that we need to keep our eyes open in all directions when analyzing the causes of the dramatic insect decline. In addition to the loss of habitats, the intensification of agriculture and the introduction of pesticides and air pollutants into the environment, other factors, such as high-frequency electromagnetic radiation, may also play a role. This study shows that the effect of mobile phone radiation on the environment is often underestimated,” says Johannes Enssle, NABU state chairman. Much is already known in science about the negative effect of mobile phone and WLAN radiation on cells. However, Enssle notes that this has hardly been debated in public so far. “The topic is uncomfortable for many of us, as it interferes deeply with our everyday habits and there are of course powerful economic interests behind mobile phone technology.”

Demand for less radiation exposure in the environment
Peter Hensinger, second chairman of diagnose:funk and head of the science department, demands: “It is worrying that even low levels of radiation far below the limit values are damaging insects.” Hensinger is therefore calling for a debate on the results: “With these indications of insect-damaging effects, the expansion of mobile communications must not be allowed to continue unabated across the board, as desired by politicians and mobile network operators. Insect habitats must be protected from mobile phone radiation!” The results of the meta-study are by no means surprising for scientists such as biologist Dr. Ulrich Warnke and contradict the attitude of the German government, which has so far negated or played down the effects of electric, magnetic and electromagnetic fields on flora and fauna. Biologist Prof. Herbert Zucchi from Osnabrück University of Applied Sciences, one of the leading experts in the field of insects and electromagnetic fields, rates the meta-study as a very thorough piece of work that provides insect researchers with a good overview of the current state of knowledge.

Only seven percent
No wonder, then, that resistance to mobile phone antennas based on the 5G standard is steadily increasing. In Italy, for example, twelve percent of all municipalities have already decided not to allow the installation of 5G antennas on their territory at this time. They first want assurances from the government that 5G will not have a negative impact on human, animal and environmental health. Only when they are convinced that 5G is safe will they agree to the expansion. More and more people are recognizing the dangers of mobile phone radiation, especially in connection with the new 5G mobile phone technology. According to the Swiss association gigaherz.ch, the alleged technical revolution that is to be triggered by the construction of 5G transmission masts is being the revolutionaries. According to a report by gigaherz.ch, this is shown by statistics published by the Federal Statistical Office every four years. In 2011, a good ten percent of respondents still believed that mobile phone masts were completely harmless, which was already very few even then, but by the end of 2019 the number of mobile phone freaks and electrosmog deniers had fallen to a “measly” seven percent. What is interesting about these latest statistics is that people over the age of 74 were apparently consistently excluded from the survey. “Without discrimination against this age group, the overall picture would certainly have been much clearer,” says Hans-U. Jakob, President of gigaherz.ch, with conviction. And what is even more interesting, and above all highly gratifying, is “that the millions of dollars of propaganda from the mobile phone operators has fizzled out completely uselessly, indeed has had a downright controversial effect”.

Majority against 5G
With 1,450 objections across Switzerland, 120,000 signatures against 5G have been received within a year. Initial scientific reports and studies as well as the assessment of doctors for environmental protection clearly show the great risk of 5G. The Verein Schutz vor Strahlung is therefore calling for a national 5G moratorium to protect our health, our environment and our descendants. The majority of the population rejects 5G, and countless municipalities support the will of the Swiss electorate. Many municipalities are taking their responsibility seriously and rejecting planning applications or putting them on hold. Some of them take mobile communications planning into their own hands. The building law department of the “Protection from Radiation” association began its work a year ago. At that time, more and more planning applications for 5G antennas were arriving every day. At the same time, the number of inquiries from those affected increased sharply. With the publication of the legal opinion by the law firm Pfisterer and Fretz, the association showed that an increase in limit values for adaptive antennas is inadmissible. The introduction of 5G poses a major risk to human health and the environment because 5G antennas must emit much stronger radiation than previous antennas, but this radiation can neither be measured nor controlled (lack of QA system for adaptive antennas).

Creating a harmonic oscillation field
How can you protect yourself and your children from high-frequency radiation and electrosmog? “The law of resonance states that no resonances can occur in an oscillation field with oscillations whose frequencies lie outside those of the field,” says Richard Neubersch, owner of Swiss Harmony in Grellingen, a company that specializes in the harmonization of electrosmog. In other words: In a harmonic oscillation field, artificial radiation has no effect, regardless of who generates it, whether it comes from a neighbor or a nearby mobile phone mast.
